World's top bicycle couriers to compete
Toronto Star, July 23, 1993
At least half a dozen Toronto bicycle couriers will travel to Berlin
next month to compete in the first-ever World Cycle Messenger
Championship.
The championship is expected to draw hundreds of top couriers from
major cities around the world, and will consist of a series of races
specially designed to test urban riding skills.
Races will be run on courses from 12 to 16 kilometres long, that will
include hazards such as sand and gravel. Among the event's other unique
features: parcel pickups and simulated traffic jams.
The championships will be held August 27 to 29 in downtown Berlin.
Contestants must have worked as cycle couriers for at least six months
to be eligible, organizers say.
