 Joel's Obituary

Joel Bradford Ahrens, born October 11, 1972, in Kansas City, Missouri, passed away surrounded by loved ones. Joel, the beloved son of John Harvey Ahrens Jr. (Jack) and Karen Delleen Kennedy, was a vibrant soul whose life was a testament to passion and creativity.

Growing up in Edmond, Oklahoma, Joel attended Memorial High School and went on to study at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. His journey through life took him from Edmond to Chicago, Los Angeles, and back to Oklahoma in 2013. Along the way, he made an indelible mark on those he encountered.

Joel's life was a colorful tapestry woven with his love for old punk rock, The Black Keys, The Rolling Stones, and Father John Misty. He delighted in painting with vivid colors and found joy in perfect days spent barbecuing with friends and family while immersed in good music. His laughter was often sparked by the irony of life and paradoxical situations, reflecting his unique ability to find humor in the world around him.

Joel was a man of many talents and interests. His passions included photography, skateboarding, surfing, collecting memorabilia, music, books, and art. He cherished his time outdoors and was known for his love of barbecuing. As a barber and photographer, he touched many lives through his work at Tom’s Barbershop in Oklahoma City, Bethany, and Edmond. His artistic talents extended beyond the barbershop, as he was also a painter and dedicated himself to his craft with unwavering enthusiasm.

Joel is remembered for his ability to connect with people from all walks of life. He embraced and appreciated everyone, regardless of background, color, or creed, teaching us all the value of acceptance and understanding. His vibrant spirit and genuine warmth made him a cherished friend and a loving family member.

Joel is preceded in death by his brother, Jason Daniel Ahrens. He is survived by his wife, Vivian; his four children, Isabella, Caroline, Alexandra, and Ian; his mother, Karen Mosbey and her husband, Bill; his father, Jack Ahrens; and his sister, Kristen Ahrens-Smith.
