despite the trial that working for maria could be, i think she really deserves a messenger wake ... she really did love the business, and despite how much she may have driven us all crazy, she usually did right in the end. and it *was* a great place to cut my teeth as a messenger - and a great crew to work with that first year or so.

talked to john today - seems she was diagnosed with liver cancer in dec - always a bad one, liver cancer - and then it was basically discovered, soon after, just how bad it was... it had metastasized to her kidney, so transplants were out of the quest ion... liver cancer can be really aggressive, and this all showed up between last years checkup and this dec ember... i remember she was always going to the doctor for checkups so its not like she slacked off on it.

pelican goes on, apparently - the family wanted to close it down for a bit, but john convinced them that maria wouldn't have wanted that - lance was remember her saying that if she died dispatching, we should just push her off the chair and take over..
