Motorist who stalked cyclist charged after confrontation

Toronto Star, March 13, 1991

By Dottie O'Neill Toronto Star

A running clash between a motorist and a bicycle courier erupted in violence on a downtown street.

The cyclist was "chased all over" Monday after kicking at the headlight of a four-by-four vehicle he said had cut him off, police said.

He was eventually accosted on Macpherson Ave. and knocked down by the driver, who then took his bicycle and drove off.

Detective Sergeant David Sangster said the 27- year-old courier told police he was cut off by the truck on Davenport Rd. and followed it toward Avenue Rd. He got ahead of it, kicked at a headlight, but did no damage.

The driver then began chasing him and he pedalled furiously through side streets to get away.

Sangster said the cyclist thought he had lost the driver and had resumed his deliveries when he was confronted by the shouting driver on Macpherson Ave., west of Avenue Rd.

"The driver took the bike, threw it in the back of his Jimmy (vehicle) and drove off," Sangster said.

The cyclist was not injured.

Tash Cosmore, 27, of Ossington Ave., was charged with robbery.
