Championship for Messenger Boys and Police Expected to Lend Additional
Interest to the Fall State Race Meet at Manhattan Beach Track on Labor
Day
An event that bids fair to attract attention on Labor Day in this
section will be the annual Fall State race meet at Manhattan Beach.
With four championships and an equal number of open races and
handicaps, the card offered is unusually attractive.
State championships at a quarter of a mile and two miles will naturally
bring together the ambitious amateur fliers and these events should
therefore furnish exhilarating sport. The other championships are a
one-mile police State championship and a one-mile messenger boys’
metropolitan district championship. It is anticipated by the Race
Committee of the South Brooklyn Wheelmen, which has the meet in charge,
that both the police and messenger boys’ races will prove exceptionally
interesting. The entry list in each promises to be quite large.
Each of the several companies controlling messenger boys in this city
and Brooklyn is anxious for the honor of having the metropolitan
district champion, and some interesting preliminary trials for the
privilege of riding in the finals on the day of the meet may be
anticipated.
By way of entertainment for visiting wheelmen who may come to attend
the meet, the Run Committee of the South Brooklyn has scheduled a short
but interesting tour over the paths and fine macadam roads within a
radius of thirty miles of the bridge.
Racing men should note that all entries close a week from next Monday.
List with N.R. Macdonald, Secretary Race Committee Room 1426, 150
Nassau Street, New York City.
