Two Telegraph Messenger Boys Bicycle From
Toronto to Montreal
Toronto Star, June 3, 1926
That the bicycle has not altogether has its day as a means of
locomotion when it comes to long distance holiday jaunts was evidenced
this morning in the arrival of Canadian National Telegraphs of Bernard
Aldridge, aged 18 years and Clifford Smith, aged 19 years, after
completing a journey of 356 miles by bicycle.
The two youthful cyclists are members of the messenger staff of the
Canadian National Telegraphs at Toronto. They left the head office of
the company at midnight last Sunday night, carrying with them just
sufficient kit that was absolutely necessary.
That they were no easy going wheelmen is seen in the fact that the
whole journey of 356 miles from office to office was accomplished in 58
½ hours, which includes stoppages for eating and sleeping, the
time allotted to the latter being but a bare seven hours.
